UNC Day of Music

One whole day of music: imagined by students, created by students, performed by students. This is UNC’s Day of Music!
On October 7th, University of Northern Colorado School of Music students will flood the Greeley community with music, booking shows and performing all day all over town. Students are liberated to dream big, create professional partnerships, and do what they love – play music and share their art with the community.
Wiley Roots Schedule:
Igaus Davis* 4-5 p.m.
Birland Combo* 7-8 p.m.
Nocturne Sextet* 8:30-9:30
Igaus Davis: four members of the Greeley folk band will be playing a set of original material, as well as covers of various folk, pop, and jazz music. The members of the group are: Matthew Davis (guitar & vocals), Jimmy Eads (bass and banjo), and Breana Meyers (drums and percussion).
The Birdland Combo is one of many University of Northern Colorado’s premier small jazz ensembles. Under the direction of Steve Kovalcheck, the Birdland Combo performs a variety of musical styles extending from the blues to avant guard. Members include Jameson Scriver (dr.), David Baker (bs.), Alexandra Sjobeck (pn.), Jack McManaman (gr.), Zach Rich (tb.), Chang Su (asax.), and Christopher Navarrete (trpt.). Music performed tonight will feature original compositions as well as various arrangements of great composers such as Billy Strayhorn, Freddie Hubbard, Walter Gross, Jule Styne, Cannonball Adderley, Victor Young, and George Gershwin.
Nocturne Sextet is made up of UNC graduate students that are accomplished arrangers/composers in addition to being top notch performers. The group will be performing a variety of standards from the great American song book in addition to arranagements and origional compositions. The group is made up of Ryan Lepig (drums), David Baker (bass), Mike Conrad (piano), Doug Stewart (Alto Sax), Darrel Watson (tenor sax), and David Moore (trumpet).
